Vintage Bark cloth with rare cross clan motis. Because of the contemporary feel of this it is a sought after design. Cloths like these were used a loin cloths,and worn especially for ritual and ceremonial occasions. This one originates from the Oro Province,from a village along the shores of Collingwood Bay. Early Bark cloth Waist Cloth Circa 1950.This beautiful early tapa cloth was collected by Henry Van Leeuwen who worked as a patrol officer in New Guinea in the 1950-60's. Henry worked on Manus Island in the Fifties and the Highlands afterwards. This bark cloth would have been worn around the waist by women and has has a nice geometric design which has slightly muted with age.Dimensions: 1m x 950 mm. $450.00 SOLD
